In the early 1900s, the gazebo stood at the intersection of Grand River and Putnam on posts above the street, over a water trough for passing horses. Its position made it a platform for speeches, concerts, and civic gatherings. As the automobile era emerged, it was moved to a local residence, and in the 1930s, to the new park along the Red Cedar River. Painted many times, it was last worked in 2000 as part of a community service project. In 2010, it was moved to its present location as part of the McCormick Park Renovation Project. In 2011, volunteers funded by the Williamston Sunrise Rotary Club restored and painted it to its current condition.
