Judge Joshua H. Mellett was a Henry County pioneer whose early home stood at this site. In his memory, his granddaughter, Nellie Catherine Bundy Bailey, dedicated this property in trust to The James Whitcomb Riley Memorial Association for its program of service to the handicapped children of the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children.
