Awbrey Falls is a waterfall on Oregon’s Deschutes River, distinguished by a long lava tube beneath the cascade that reflects the area’s volcanic terrain. It is also an important river landmark and hazard for travelers, since the main channel becomes dangerously swift as it approaches the drop and must be portaged on the right. Nearby rapids add to the river’s difficulty: Pot Hole, about a mile upstream, is a low ledge rapid rated 2+, and just below the falls the river enters White Mile, a rated 3 rapid that grows more difficult farther downstream.
