Direct scheduled commercial air line service in Seattle was established when a Travelair bi-plane carrying 12,000 letters landed at Gorst Field on September 15, 1926. Earlier, when it was known as Gorst Field, the site had been used by the Boeing Company as a base for test flights, and it is dedicated to the nation's pioneer commercial air mail pilots.
