Hat ’n’ Boots is a mid-century roadside attraction in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, now in Oxbow Park. Created in 1954 for the Western-themed Premium Tex service station, it combined a giant cowboy hat and oversized cowboy boots as a striking example of novelty architecture meant to attract motorists. Designed by commercial artist Lewis Naysmith with permit drawings by architect Albert Poe, it served as the gas station’s visual centerpiece until the station closed in 1988. The landmark endured as a local icon, was moved by the City of Seattle to Oxbow Park in 2003 for preservation, and later appeared in popular culture as a recognizable symbol of Seattle roadside Americana.
