McCalls Dam State Park is a small, remote Pennsylvania state park in Miles Township, Centre County, named for a splash dam Johnny McCall built on White Deer Creek in 1850. The dam powered a sawmill and tied the site to the timber economy of central Pennsylvania. Rebuilt in 1866, it became part of a system of splash dams that floated white pine logs downstream to sawmills on the West Branch Susquehanna River at Watsontown. The original mill and dam disappeared, but the site’s later history includes facilities built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933. Today it remains lightly developed, with only small camping and picnic areas.
