The General Sherman Tree is the largest tree on earth. Although some trees grow taller and some are bigger around, no tree has greater mass, and the space taken up by its trunk is greater than that of any other tree. The tree later changed from an earlier photographed appearance when its second-largest branch fell in January 2006; no one witnessed the crash, and it crushed only some fencing and pavement.
