Mother Lode is a remote 7,905-foot summit in Washington’s North Cascades, in the Methow Mountains within the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. Though not one of the region’s highest peaks, it rises steeply above the South Fork Twisp River and stands out for its strong local relief. Its runoff reaches the Twisp and then the Methow River, and nearby Gilbert Mountain is the closest higher summit. Recorded ascents are recent, with climbs by Rick La Belle and Glen Sterr in 1983 and by Carl and Gordon Skoog in 1985. The mountain stands in a rugged alpine landscape shaped by uplift, faulting, terrane accretion, and repeated Pleistocene glaciation, with heavy winter snowfall typical of the Cascades.
