On July 25, 1863, Gen. John H. Morgan, commanding Confederate troops, passed through this village and proceeded northward via New Alexandria while being pursued by Gen. James M. Shackelford, who commanded the 14th Ill. Cav., First Ky. Cav., 9th Mich. Cav., 11th Mich. Bat'y, 86th Ohio Mounted Inf., and 2d Tenn. Mounted Inf.
