Prentiss Bridge in rural Langdon, New Hampshire, spans Great Brook near Chester Turnpike at a crossing used since at least 1791. The current covered bridge was built in 1874 by Albert S. Granger after the town funded a replacement for an earlier structure associated with the nearby mill of Jabez Rockwell and John Prentiss, from whom the bridge took its name. A Town lattice truss on stone abutments, it measures just 36 feet by 15 feet. Since 1955 it has stood beside a newer bridge, surviving as New Hampshire’s shortest standing 19th-century covered public-road bridge and a reminder of rural road building.
