American poet Robert Frost often spent time in the Green Mountains and the Town of Ripton, and his work is lauded for its ability to realistically evoke the New England landscape. In 1955, the State of Vermont named a mountain after Frost in Ripton, the town of his legal Vermont residence. Frost was also named poet laureate of Vermont in 1961.
