Bread Loaf Mountain stands in Vermont’s central Green Mountains within the Breadloaf Wilderness of Green Mountain National Forest, in Addison County near Mount Wilson. It occupies a watershed divide whose streams ultimately flow to different destinations: some to the White and Connecticut rivers and Long Island Sound, others to the New Haven River, Otter Creek, Lake Champlain, the Richelieu and Saint Lawrence rivers, and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, with part of the west side draining through the Middlebury River system. The mountain is also a hiking destination on Vermont’s Long Trail, with the main route crossing its southeastern flank and a spur leading to the summit outlook.
