Launch Complex 39 supported Apollo, Skylab, and Apollo-Soyuz Test Project missions from 1967 to 1975. Apollo 4 made the first Saturn V flight test from Pad A on Nov. 9, 1967, followed by Apollo 6, the second Saturn V flight test, from Pad A on April 4, 1968. Apollo 8 flew from Pad A on Dec. 21-27, 1968, carrying Frank Borman, James A. Lovell, Jr., and William Anders on man's first journey to lunar orbit. Apollo 9 launched from Pad A on March 3-13, 1969, with James A. McDivitt, David R. Scott, and Russell L. Schwelckart to test lunar spaceships in Earth orbit. Apollo 10 left Pad B on May 18-26, 1969, with Thomas P. Stafford, John W. Young, and Eugene A. Cernan as the dress rehearsal for lunar landing. Apollo 11 launched from Pad A on July 16-24, 1969, carrying Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr on the first manned Moon landing at Tranquility Base. Apollo 12 departed Pad A on Nov. 14-24, 1969, with Charles Conrad, Jr., Richard F. Gordon, Jr., and Alan L. Bean for the second manned landing at the Ocean of Storms. Apollo 13 launched from Pad A on April 11-17, 1970, with James A. Lovell, Jr., Fred W. Halse, Jr., and John L. Swigert, Jr., and the crew returned safely after the Moon landing was aborted. Apollo 14 lifted off from Pad A on Jan. 31-Feb 9, 1971, with Alan B. Shepard, Stuart A. Roosa, and Edgar D. Mitchell for the third lunar landing at Fra Mauro. Apollo 15 launched from Pad A on July 26-Aug. 7, 1971, with Donald R. Scott, James B. Irwin, and Alfred M. Worden, Jr. for the fourth landing at the rugged Hadley Appennines site. Apollo 16 left Pad A on April 16-27, 1972, with John W. Young, Thomas K. Mattingly, II, and Charles M. Duke, Jr. as the fifth crew to land, at Descartes Highlands. Apollo 17 launched from Pad A on Dec. 7-19, 1972, with Eugene A. Cernan, Ronald E. Evans, and Harrison H. Schmitt for the final lunar visit, to Taurus-Littrow. Skylab 1 launched America's first space station on a Saturn V from Pad A on May 14, 1973. Skylab 2 flew from Pad B on May 25-June 22, 1973, with Charles Conrad, Jr., Joseph P. Kerwin, and Paul J. Weitz for the first Skylab crew visit, lasting 26 days. Skylab 3 launched from Pad B on July 28-Sept 25, 1973, with Alan L. Bean, Owen K. Garriot, and Jack Robert Lousma for the second crewed station mission, lasting 56 days. Skylab 4 flew from Pad B from Nov. 16, 1973-Feb. 8, 1974, with Gerald Carr, Edward Gibson, and William Pogue for the final Skylab crew mission, lasting 84 days. ASTP launched on a Saturn IB from Pad B on July 15-24, 1975, with Donald K. Slayton, Thomas P. Stafford, and Vance Brand, joining manned American and Soviet spacecraft in space.
