Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, New Jersey, is a nonprofit botanical garden and living museum devoted to iris flowers, established in 1927 to honor horticulturalist Frank Presby. Set on 6.5 acres, it has grown into a major specialized collection with about 10,000 plants spanning six species and more than 3,000 named varieties, and is widely regarded as the world’s largest non-commercial garden dedicated to irises. Open free to the public, it draws more than 10,000 visitors annually, especially during the bloom season from mid-May to early June. After financial troubles in 2008 and 2009, Essex County took ownership to help stabilize the site.
