The Meuse-Argonne Campaign was a major part of the final Allied offensive of World War I along the entire Western Front. Fought between the Meuse River and Argonne Forest in three phases, it began on September 26, 1918, and ended on November 11, 1918, when an armistice took effect. It was the largest operation undertaken by the American Expeditionary Forces, involving some 1.2 million soldiers, including a number of local men. On November 11, 1921, Tight Street, also known as Milford Road, was renamed Meuse Argonne and dedicated to all veterans of World War I and to the memory of those who gave their lives in the global conflict.
