The American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis preserves and interprets the history and cultural legacy of Sweden and Swedish Americans in the United States. Centered on the Swan Turnblad Mansion, completed in 1908, and expanded by the Nelson Cultural Center in 2012, it grew from the success of Swedish immigrant publisher Swan Turnblad, who built Svenska Amerikanska Posten into a major Swedish-language newspaper. In 1929, the Turnblad family donated the house and newspaper to create a Swedish-American institution. Today it combines a historic setting with exhibitions, collections, and programs on migration, art, community, and Nordic traditions, including its long-running Christmas display.
