The first district school building in Lugonia, now Redlands, was erected in 1877. The name Lugonia was suggested by Charles R. Paine, then County Superintendent of Schools. The trustees were C.E. Brink, M.H. Crafts, and W.R. Tolles, and the teacher was George W. Beattie.
