Grand Master Elbert H. English urged that the broad mantle of Masonic charity be thrown over their errors, whatever they may have been, and that their virtues be cherished in the memory of those who survive. On this site, Confederate state government and Grand Lodge bodies convened during 1863 and 1864, and it honors those who participated in a cause they believed just. The inscription also identifies English as Grand Master from 1859 to 1868 and Quinn D. Lafargue, Jr., as Grand Master in 1963.
