Hendricks Street was one of the first streets laid out in Wayne when the town was established in 1842 and may first have been called Main Street. In the election of 1884, Wayne's people supported President Grover Cleveland and Vice President Thomas Hendricks and named two streets in town after them. Over the years, Hendricks Street was home to many prominent businesses, including Urling's Department Store, the Log Cabin Canteen, the Wayne Theater, Dr. Porter's Office, and the Jewelry Store, one of the oldest remaining businesses in town.
