This Federal-style house was built about 1860 by Elijah Mayhew, a pioneer of 1853. He held many church and civic positions, including Pleasant Grove Ward Clerk for 29 years, postmaster and city recorder for 15 years each, and justice of the peace. For 29 years he was superintendent and secretary of the town's co-operative mercantile. One of his plural wives, Sarah, operated a boarding house here. The house was restored in 1996 by Scott Hancock.
