Sheep Mountain is a 13,188-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado on the boundary of San Miguel and Dolores counties. Part of the Rocky Mountains and west of the Continental Divide, it stands near Trout Lake and Lizard Head Pass on national forest land. The mountain is notable for its strong local relief, with its southwest side rising about 3,200 feet above the Dolores River in roughly 2.5 miles, creating a steep, prominent profile. Visible from the San Juan Skyway, it has been recognized by name since 1906 and lies in an alpine subarctic climate with year-round precipitation and drainage toward both the Dolores and San Miguel river systems.
