Ulysses S Grant Peak is a 13,767-foot mountain in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, about eight miles west of Silverton on the San Juan-San Miguel county line within San Juan and Uncompahgre national forests. West of the Continental Divide, it is Colorado’s 119th-highest peak by elevation, yet stands out even more for its steep local relief, with its west face rising about 2,400 feet in roughly a mile. Its runoff drains toward both the San Miguel and Animas river systems. The peak lies in an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters, summer thunderstorms, and a late-spring dry period, and its name has been in established use since at least the late 19th century.
