Cross Mountain
Nature
Cross Mountain is a 12,703-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, on the border of Dolores and San Miguel counties in the Lizard Head Wilderness southwest of Telluride. Though west of the Continental Divide, it drains into two river systems, with its south side flowing by Slate Creek to the Dolores River and its north side through Bilk Creek to the San Miguel River. The mountain rises moderately above nearby terrain and is reached by a standard route from Highway 145. Its alpine climate brings snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and late-summer monsoon storms that can sharply affect travel.
