Golden Horn is a prominent 13,780-foot summit in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, on the boundary of San Juan and San Miguel counties west of Silverton. Part of the Rocky Mountains and lying west of the Continental Divide, it is the 116th-highest summit in the state. Its most striking feature is its steep west face, where it rises about 3,800 feet in roughly 1.5 miles. The mountain has an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters, summer thunderstorms, and year-round precipitation. Its waters drain west toward the Dolores River and east through Mineral Creek to the Animas River. The name was in use by 1906 and was officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names.
