Caltech Peak is a 13,832-foot summit in Sequoia National Park, just west of the Sierra Nevada crest, ranking as California’s 24th-highest peak. Rising steeply above nearby terrain, especially above Lake South America, it stands near the Kings–Kern Divide, Mount Stanford, and Mount Whitney, with the John Muir Trail passing below its east side. Its runoff feeds the headwaters of the Kern River. Norman Clyde made the first recorded ascent on June 22, 1926. The name was officially adopted in 1961 in honor of the California Institute of Technology. The peak lies in an alpine climate shaped by Pacific storms and orographic lift.
