Amaziah Lord Knox founded Knox's Corners, later the City of El Cajon. He owned the community's first business, the Knox Hotel, on the southwest corner of Main and Magnolia, and served as the first postmaster and county roadmaster. He was a charter member of California's International Order of Odd Fellows, a stepfather of two, and father of three.
