Overcoat Peak is a 7,432-foot mountain in Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness within Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, just northwest of Chimney Rock, with Overcoat Glacier on its east slopes. Its unusual name is linked to surveyor Albert Hale Sylvester, who reportedly left his coat there during a surveying trip in 1897 that is also noted as the first ascent. The peak stands in the central Cascades, where moisture from the Pacific brings heavy rain and wet winter snowfall. The surrounding Alpine Lakes landscape was shaped by uplift, faulting, and repeated glaciation, which carved deep valleys and left rugged ridges, granite walls, and numerous lakes.
