Chimney Rock is a rugged, sharply profiled peak in Washington’s central Cascades, rising along the divide between the Snoqualmie and Yakima River drainages in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. With two main summits and a smaller south peak, plus three glaciers on its flanks, it stands out as one of the range’s most distinctive mountains. It became a major climbing objective in the early 20th century, but its steep rock and complex faces long resisted ascent. The first confirmed climb of the main summit came in 1930 after several days of exploration, and its technical routes and severe weather still make it a serious Cascade climb.
