Clinton Ironworks was a 19th century ironmaking community established by William Jackson in 1826. Representative of New Jersey’s early iron industry, its furnace utilized locally available resources to supply iron for the region. Under multiple owners, iron was produced in the furnace from 1833 to 1837, and later from a nearby forge until operations ceased in 1852.
