Nature
Kitty Ann Mountain is a summit in the Ramapo range of the Appalachian Mountains above Kinnelon in northern New Jersey. Rising 1,159 feet above sea level and topped by an 80-foot tower, it is especially notable for its steep relief. Its north slope has an 892-foot prominence, described as the highest in New Jersey, while the east and west slopes also rise sharply and the south slope is gentler. The mountain is made of granite, marble, limestone, quartz, and gneiss, and local geology holds that movement along the Ramapo mountain fault lifts it by about 2.4 millimeters each year. Its woodlands support varied trees and wildlife.
