Signal Peak, also known as Mount Lassic, is the highest point in the Mount Lassic Wilderness in Humboldt County’s Coast Range, within Six Rivers National Forest. Earlier forms of its name honored Lassic, a Native American leader during the Bald Hills War, and local usage produced several spellings recorded in the late 19th century. The official name Signal Peak came from a heliograph station on the summit around 1900. In 2006, the mountain and 7,279 surrounding acres were designated wilderness by the United States Congress as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System, and the area is managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
