Locomotive #110 was built by the General Electric Co. of Pennsylvania in 1941. Weighing 44 tons and producing 380 HP with two diesel engines, it was the first new piece of equipment ever purchased by the Arcade & Attica. It replaced the last steam locomotives used in regular freight service and made the A&A one of the first diesel operated railroads in the United States. Along with sister engine #111, it served as the primary engine until 1984. Its economic success and labor and cost effectiveness led General Electric to reference the A&A in advertising to sell similar locomotives to other railroads. A whistle post marked the approach to a crossing along the tracks, and the W casted in the cement posts signaled the engineer to blow the whistle to warn oncoming traffic with the standard pattern of two long blasts, a short blast, and another long blast.
