Built in 1835 under its first resident pastor, Rev. Samuel King, on land donated by Thomas Vincent Young, the Methodist church grew from an earlier tradition in which pioneers of Orient Methodism met regularly for classes conducted by itinerant circuit riders as early as 1802.
