Thomas Moore, originally from Southwold, Suffolk, England, arrived in Southold in 1635 and married Reverend John Youngs' sister Martha in 1636. By 1651, Moore, his wife, and their ten children were settled on this home lot. A shipbuilder, Moore operated a boatyard along the creek on the east side of his property and across Main Road, then a dirt path. After his death in 1691, two more generations of his family continued to live here. The present building dates only to about 1750 and was probably built by Samuel Landon, who owned the property. Landon, who lived from 1699 to 1782, served as Town Supervisor, County Judge, and Justice of the Peace. He married Bethia Tuthill and they had twelve children in this home, where five people enslaved by Landon also lived.
