Bigelow Hollow State Park is a 516-acre recreation area in Union, Connecticut, created in 1949 from Nipmuck State Forest. Set in a broad hollow below surrounding ridgelines, with Mashapaug Lake on its northern edge and forest on both sides, it forms part of the Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor and one of Connecticut’s largest unbroken forest tracts. Known for a relatively secluded, rugged character, the park and adjoining forestlands contain more than 35 miles of trails, including routes to secluded Breakneck Pond. Its ponds and lakes support boating, picnicking, fishing, snowmobiling access, and nearby backcountry camping.
