Winchendon dedicated this veterans memorial to all who served honorably in defense of the country in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard, and it honors those who made the supreme sacrifice in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Merchant Marines. It also includes John F. Kennedy's call from his 1961 inaugural address: "And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you: ask what you can do for your country."
