Mount Skokomish Wilderness is a protected area in the southeastern Olympic National Forest on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, north of Lake Cushman. Established by Congress in 1984, it covers 13,291 acres along the southeast edge of the larger Olympic Wilderness. Two long rocky ridges frame the headwaters basin of the Hamma Hamma River, with elevations rising to Mount Skokomish. Forests of old-growth hemlock, cedar, and Douglas fir give way higher up to firs, pines, and dwarf juniper, supporting wildlife such as elk, black-tailed deer, black bear, mountain lion, marmot, and mountain goat. Its steep, rugged terrain draws backpackers, climbers, anglers, and campers via more than 13 miles of trail.
