Mount Ellinor, a peak in Washington’s Olympic Mountains within the Mount Skokomish Wilderness north of Lake Cushman, is a popular summer day hike known for a short but steep trail to a summit with wide views of surrounding mountains and waters, including Mount Olympus in the distance. Named in 1853 by surveyor George Davidson for his fiancée, Ellinor Fauntleroy, it was part of a cluster of nearby names tied to her family. The first recorded American settlers to climb it were D.N. Utler, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Waughop, and H.C. Esteps in August 1879.
