Cuchara Formation
Nature

Colorado’s Cuchara Formation preserves fossils from the Ypresian age of the Eocene, corresponding to the Wasatchian North American land mammal age. Fossils reported from this formation include the mammals Didymictis, Hyracotherium, and Phenacodus intermedius. As one of Colorado’s fossil-bearing stratigraphic units, it contributes to the state’s paleontological record of early Eocene life and helps document the animals present during that period.
