Anderson Glacier occupied a cirque just south of Mount Anderson in Washington’s Olympic Mountains within Olympic National Park. On a south-facing slope, it began on steep headwalls around 6,200 to 6,000 feet and flowed down to about 5,240 feet, with meltwater feeding a lake at roughly 4,949 feet before descending toward the Quinault River system. It became significant not for its size but for its rapid loss: from 1927 to 2009, it lost more than 90 percent of its surface area, and by 2011 it had disappeared. The loss of its ice and summer meltwater has been linked to newly recorded low flows on the Quinault River.
