During the first postwar beach race in 1946, rented circus bleachers were used because the grandstands had rotted during the war years. Disabled veteran Red Byron won after Roy Hall’s car broke, while Roy Hall took a convincing victory in the other race. After competing in all 16 Beach-Road course races, Bill France retired from driving to concentrate on race promoting.
