Freetown-Fall River State Forest is a more than 5,000-acre public forest in southeastern Massachusetts spanning Fall River, Freetown, and Lakeville. Begun with a small land purchase in 1913 and expanded mainly from the 1930s onward, it is managed by the Commonwealth and includes landmarks such as Profile Rock and the 227-acre Pocasset reservation. Civilian Conservation Corps crews worked there during the New Deal, and today over 50 miles of roads and trails support many kinds of recreation. The forest has also been shaped by destructive wildfires and by notorious crimes and incidents that contributed to its uneasy association with the Bridgewater Triangle.
