Colonel Robert M. Coleman, born in Kentucky in 1799, signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, served as aide-de-camp to General Sam Houston at San Jacinto, and became colonel of the First Regiment of Texas Rangers before drowning at the mouth of the Brazos in July 1837.
