Cavendish's Civil War servicemen included men from the Sharpshooters, Vermont Cavalry, batteries, and the 7th, 13th, 15th, 16th, and 17th regiments, with many serving in companies identified across all four sides of this record. It identifies numerous deaths in service, including deaths while prisoners of war, deaths from disease incurred while prisoner of war, deaths from wounds, and men killed at Gettysburg and Petersburg, as well as one man lost with a steamship in December 1864.
