Camp Telogia, whose name most likely came from a Native American word meaning palmetto, was acquired in 1961 when Broward County sold 10 acres to the Girl Scouts for one dollar. Approximately 13 acres in size, it includes full cooking facilities, platform tent sites, shower facilities, and more. It has served many purposes, including Commission meetings in 1979 and housing AmeriCorps volunteers during Build Week for Parkland's Liberty Park in 2001. In 2005, Hurricane Wilma caused extensive destruction to the trees and significant damage to the camp's structures, and in 2007 the Girl Scouts sponsored a campaign to plant new trees to restore what had been destroyed. In 2010, Girl Scouts gathered there to honor the individuals who sponsored a tree.
