Webster County Courthouse was completed in July 1941 as part of the Works Progress Administration's public works during the Great Depression. The land had been donated by Ambrose and Arabel Mooney in 1860, and a smaller brick courthouse built in 1871 was razed to make way for this structure. Its exterior walls are formed by 458 concrete slabs cast onsite. Architect H. Lawrence Casner, a Webster County native, also designed the Caldwell County courthouse and the main vault at Fort Knox. The sculptured faces of five notable Americans on the north and south exterior walls were made by his wife, Arminta Bowmer Casner. The courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
