Federal Hill Historic Site was the setting of the Revolutionary War era Pompton Mutiny during the cold harsh winter of 1781. In the eastern valley overlooking Bloomingdale, an encampment of weary troops mutinied. As a result, their two ringleaders were arrested, tried, and executed in the vicinity of what is now known as Union Avenue.
