Bok Tower Gardens is a 250-acre botanical garden and bird sanctuary on Iron Mountain near Lake Wales, created by Edward W. Bok in the 1920s to preserve the Lake Wales Ridge and shape a contemplative landscape on one of peninsular Florida’s highest points. Beginning as a 25-acre sanctuary, it grew into a refuge for more than a hundred bird species and other wildlife. Its centerpiece is the 205-foot Singing Tower, a Gothic Revival carillon tower designed by Milton B. Medary and richly ornamented by notable artists. Dedicated in 1929, the site unites landscape design, architecture, music, and conservation, and remains an active public garden and historic landmark.
