Fort Crook was established July 1, 1857 by Lieutenant George Crook and his command for the protection of immigrants and settlers. It was later occupied by Captain John W Gardner and Captain McGregor. The boundaries of the fort were designated as one mile in every direction from the flag pole, and it was abandoned June 1, 1869.
