Keaīwa Heiau State Recreation Area in ʻAiea Heights on Oʻahu centers on the ruins of a Hawaiian heiau on a hilltop above Pearl Harbor, blending a historic sacred site with camping, picnicking, and the Aiea Loop Trail. The temple is believed to date to the 16th century and is associated with Kakuhihewa, the 15th Aliʻi ʻAimoku of Oʻahu. Long linked to healing, it was identified by Mary Kawena Pukui as a heiau hoʻōla, where kahuna prepared herbal remedies and taught healing practices. The surrounding forest and trail add natural interest, while the area also preserves the wreckage of a B-24 aircraft that crashed there in 1944.
